Funded by a grant from the Canada Summer Jobs program, Epilepsy Ottawa is hiring a Communications Specialist and a Graphic Designer over the summer.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop awareness and fundraising campaigns
  • Create promotional material for agency programs, services, and events
  • Write educational material, newsletter content, and profiles of members, volunteers, other stakeholders

This role will provide practical experience to youth pursuing careers in marketing, communications, and journalism.

Requirements

  • Strong writing skills are a must
  • Creative, innovative
  • Ability to manage several projects, stick with timelines, and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrate initiative, work well independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn, responsive to guidance, and be open to trying new possibilities
  • Enthusiasm for the not-for-profit sector and helping vulnerable communities is an asset
  • Some post-secondary education, preferably in a related field.
  • Skilled at social media, internet research, project management applications (e.g. Trello), and Microsoft Office programs. WordPress experience an asset.

  • Skilled at using graphic design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrate initiative, work well independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn, responsive to guidance, and be open to trying new possibilities
  • Enthusiasm for the not-for-profit sector and helping vulnerable communities is an asset
  • Some post-secondary education, preferably in a related field

 

In order to meet the requirements of the Canadian Summer Jobs program, applicants must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (international students are not eligible; recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.); and
  • be legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Other Important Information

The Communications Specialist and the Graphic Designer will work remotely, staying in touch through email, phone, and video conferencing.
